To mark the anniversary of the huge protests against the invasion of Iraq, Ceasefire Magazine and Anticapitalist Initiative present an evening of discussion on how imperialist wars in the Middle East and North Africa continue to shape our lives, heighten insecurity, extinguish precious civil liberties and further the reach of US Empire.

Speakers include:

Kate Hudson is a longstanding peace and anti-war activist, the chair of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and a founder of the Stop the War Coalition.

Cilius Victor is an activist with Newham Monitoring Project, a grassroots, community based anti-racist organisation that supported the families of Jean Charles de Menezes and the near-fatal Forest Gate raid.

Victoria Brittain lived and worked as a journalist in Washington, Nairobi, Saigon, Algiers and London, and wrote for the Guardian for 20 years. Her new book, Shadow Lives: The Forgotten Women of the War on Terror is to be published by Pluto Press in February 2013. Some copies will be available for sale at the event.

Stuart King came into politics during the protests against the Vietnam War in 1968. He is a socialist and anti-cuts activist with Lambeth SOS and supporter of the Anticapitalist Initiative.

Hicham Yezza, writer and activist, is editor-in-chief of Ceasefire Magazine. He experienced first-hand how public universities are becoming subject to thought police when he was wrongly arrested on terrorism charges after a copy of the “Al Qaeda Training Manual”, an open source reference document he was using for research, was discovered on his University of Nottingham office computer.
