Fascinating piece in the New York Times about how a former Telegraph editor might have leaked the Vince Cable “war on murdoch” scoop to the BBC’s Robert Peston to spite his former employers and impress his new boss… Rupert Murdoch.
The piece ends with a tentalising coda: Tom Watson, the labour MP who’s been leading the parliementary charge on News International got into a spat with Peston yesterday over the latter’s perceived attempt to “distract” from the revelations that James Murdoch’s denial of knowing about the “For Neville” email had been openly contradicted by former NOTW executives, Colin Myler (former editor) and Tom Crone (ex legal manager). Watson’s accusation had come after Peston tweeted about News International sacking a Sun editor for previous conduct whilst at NOTW.
