		<description><![CDATA[Destabalisation in the region is exactly what the US and its allies want - regime change is an obvious goal, but as long as conflict can keep Assad&#039;s government weak, the US will be happy. Although its easy to be critical of Assad, all likely alternatives will lead to further suffering of the Syrian people, fracture among the states resisting Western domination in the region and a progression of the influence of the US and its allies in a region which has suffered terribley from the West for decades.]]></description>
